NEW STYLES FEATURE THE ACCORD CABINETS
TOUCH

By Margaret Anne Fehr

Accord Cabinets has made custom residential kitchens their specialty ever since the company first opened its doors in Winnipeg in 2008.

Now the company has joined forces with local new home builder SMS Homes to bring their same brand of meticulous attention to detail and exquisite quality to today’s wave of modern style kitchens.

“We are known for our special devotion to creating custom kitchens for our clients that have included more traditional and transitional styles,” says Dmytri, Accord Cabinets co-owner. “Being open to the changes that the marketplace demands is important to servicing our customers and the trends show that modernization of the kitchen is growing ever more popular. This has led us to adapt our craftsmanship and product knowledge to creating modern style kitchens in newly constructed home and now accounts for around 30 per cent of our business volume.”

“Just three short years ago, Accord was selling shaker style cabinetry in cream and brownish tones along with painted cabinets with cream finishes. Now we see that nearly 60 per cent to our customers have a preference towards more modern-style slab doors.”

A recently modernized kitchen that Accord designed for SMS Homes defines today’s style-trending elements. The open concept kitchen looks over both family and morning rooms. The cabinetry colour palette is the essence of cool with grayish espresso tones set off against the sparkle of bright white Caesarstone countertops in fashionable ‘Nougat.’

Glass backsplash tiles augment the play of light as do the stainless steel cabinetry pulls.

The maple slab cabinet doors and drawers are sleek and uncomplicated and are equipped with superior interior features like soft close BLU technology for smooth closure and pull-out pantry units that maximize storage to the utmost.

latest-project2 (4)Dmytri points out that slab doors, for all their design simplicity, require a specialized level of technology in order to be crafted to exacting standards. “It’s necessary to glue the pieces together on real lumber and then shape it as a slab after that. It’s a bit more expensive to do it this way compared to panel product material but it’s what we do to ensure the best product.” Besides the kitchen, Accord also constructed the bathrooms featuring a floating vanity, a mudroom and a walk-in closet with the same modern design treatment.

As a company that has built a reputation on creating custom kitchens and working with their clients to ensure their total satisfaction, Dmytri admits that designing a kitchen for an as-yet-unknown customer takes some getting used to. “As a new home builder, you can’t go over the top with modern components like high gloss white and exotic veneers since that might not appeal to the majority of homebuyers, but in this case, we went with more of a 50/50 approach in the overall design and materials.”

“The point is that we are changing and are able to offer our customers another choice in what we do. We’re known for our traditional kitchens but want customers to know that we can do ultra-modern with the same degree of craftsmanship and vision that has been responsible for building our reputation here in the Winnipeg market.”
